Chlamydia Screening

The Newcastle C-Card Scheme

C-Card is a condom distribution scheme for young people aged 13-25 in the Newcastle area.

Its aims are:

  • to provide young people with access to free condoms at a range of sites in the community
  • to increase the numbers of boys and young men who access sexual health and other services
  • to reach young people who live in areas where there may be high numbers of people living in poverty, high rates of unemployment and inadequate housing
  • to raise young people's awareness of the need for safer sex to protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV, unplanned pregnancy and to increase their use of condoms
  • to develop and enhance the skills of people working in these services, so that they can improve the sexual health work they do with young people

Young people can register for C-Card at over 60 outlets across Newcastle. During the registration a 1-to-1 chat between the worker and young person will take place where the following points are discussed:

  • Confidentiality
  • Consent / Relationships / Delay
  • The law relating to under 16s
  • Emergency Contraception
  • Sexual Health Services
